Making Pancakes
Today we made pancakes. It was our favourite thing that we did today (as well as going to the library - and lunchtime of course!). A BIG thank you to those who were able to help in class and to the folks at home that helped us get the ingredients we needed. It was a very yummy way to finish the school term!

The Runaway Pancake
If I had a runaway pancake I would get my Dad's fishing net and I would chase the pancake. When I caught the pancake I would eat the pancake. A small pancake is called a pikelet. (JC)
If I had a runaway pancake I would say to come in my hands and I will trick him. (SW)
If I had a runaway pancake I would put it in the bath and catch him and put him in the pan and eat it. (JS)
I will catch a runaway pancake. I will take him into the forest and there will be a tree and on it there will be an eye and an alarm that turns on. When the pancake comes the log will hit him. (GB)
If I had a runaway pancake I would build a trap. A porcupine and the pancake will fall down and the porcupine will fall backwards. That is how I catch a runaway pancake. (JoK)

The Tortoise and the Hare...and Kermit
We loved this version of "The Tortoise and the Hare". It is so funny! We never guessed who the winner of the race would be!
Today we made finish lines because we have been reading a story called "The Hare and the Tortoise". We had only one piece of paper and we weren't allowed to use any glue, scissors or tape. It was really tricky but we managed to make some finish lines that were long enough. The trick was to rip it carefully around the edge of the square a bit like a spiral. It was hard work!

Hansel and Gretel
Last week we read three different Hansel and Gretel stories. On Friday we talked about the witch's house, which had walls of gingerbread and windows of clear sugar. But what happened to her house when it rained?! On Friday we dissolved ginger biscuits in water to find out. The gingerbread went very soggy! This week a storm is arriving again, but this time Room 9 has some ideas to help the witch waterproof her house. Watch this space!

Rainbow Fish
We are making Rainbow Fish in class to put on our calendars. First, we listened to the story from our school library. Then as we sat at our tables making our fish we watched this version made by some children in America. We loved the voice of the little fish and wondered where the octopus's eyes were. What is your favourite part?
